DuckDuckGo is an internet search engine that emphasizes searcher’s privacy. Also, it avoids the filter bubble for personalized search results. It is distinguished from other search engines by not profiling the users. It will show the same search results for all the users for a search term. Recently, DuckDuckGo introduced a new driving direction feature to its map, and it is known by the term Route Planning. It is powered by Apple’s MapKit JS framework. Its main aim is to focus on privacy. It is an advancement to the existing service by adding driving and walking directions to the map. Now, users can plan a trip, including the route, distance, and total travel time. Search for a location using DuckDuckGo and it shows the result. Taping or selecting the Directions option opens up the map route that usually starts from your current location to the searched destination. By default, it will take your current location as the starting point. However, you can change it. The result shows the best routes as well as the estimated duration to reach the destination. When you change the starting point, it will redraw the available routes. Your current location is determined by the IP information that has been sent by your web browser. DuckDuckGo uses this information temporarily only to determine your location. It is only for the map service. Later, it will get rid of the information as DuckDuckGo doesn’t share or store any IP information.
